So it’s Dec. 31, a day of reckoning, reflection and redefining for most Americans—maybe even for most businesses—to make resolute changes via the New Year’s Resolution.
I’m making my list…both personal and professional.
For Robin Tracy Public Relations—this company that I launched mentally and emotionally in January 2009 (though officially in March 2009)—I’ve made five resolutions:
1. Scale back AND build it bigger—Yes, these two things seem counterintuitive, I know. But after a year of pouring twice as many hours into a day as I should (with a hubby and kids who need me), I’ve got to work smarter. And, I will!
2. Take time off—really! This year I took time off—without checking email or communicating with clients—only TWICE. Getting completely disconnected from work is super important for me and my clients: I work faster, smarter when I’m refreshed. I’ve got to carve out time for this. And, I will!
3. Actively market my business—This past year I did market my services but not as actively as I’d like. Now that I’m more established, I’ve made connections with some incredibly sharp freelance folks with whom I like to work and with whom I can entrust my “brand” and my clients’ brands. I want to collaborate with these people more often. And, I will!
4. Redo My Website—Well, http://www.robintracy.com/ does tell folks about me, my history and my work. But it’s not exciting and not compelling. If I were my own client, I’d say, “Tracy…SERIOUSLY…we need to professionalize your Web property.” And, I will!
5. Blog, Tweet and Facebook (for business) regularly—I was shocked to see that my last blog post was Sept. 8, my last Robin Tracy Public Relations Facebook post was Sept. 17, my last work-related tweet was Nov. 20! I confess this even in light of the fact that I was blessed to be incredibly busy September through November (see how I excused myself?). But the reality is that my business’ Web presence is important and I love social media so I must be more disciplined in this area. And, I will!
‘Nuff said. Ring the New Year…I’m ready now!
